In this series, we will explore PAIN. What is pain, the types of pain, their presentation or symptoms, and how to manage them
Pain is a broad term used to describe a form of sensation or experience that is best described as unpleasurable. Something to avoid, recoil, and move away from.
Interestingly, we have more nuanced descriptors for pain than we do for pleasure.
This is due in part to PAIN's important role in safety.
As with most functions in our body, pain is a useful servant but a bad master.
The one question that the mind always asks is Does it work?
The approach that is being shared has been validated in numerous rigorus double blind trials by institutional bodies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the British Medical Journal, the American Psychological Association, and, most recently, Harvard Life Sciences
On a personal note, it is an approach I use in my daily life, and I recalled that my son used 2/3rds less morphine than a typical person might use and recovered substantially faster from a nephrectomy using a guided breath technique.
As always, results will vary from person to person, from situation to situation.
The trick, if there is one, is remembering to use the techniques; this requires practice.
It can be used in combination with herbs and pharmaceuticals. It is not intended to replace such approaches but to increase their effectiveness and reduce possible dependency.
