Before the Hands Move
There is a moment before touch.
Before the practitioner forms an opinion,
Before the fingers begin to search,
Before technique organizes the encounter, there is an interval in which nothing has yet been decided.
The person is present. The practitioner is present. The body is already alive with movement that neither of them created.
Breath enters and leaves. The heart contracts and releases. Blood moves. Muscles make minute adjustments. Attention shifts. Memory, expectation, protection, fatigue, hope, and uncertainty all participate in the moment.
And yet, for an instant, the most important action may be no action at all.
This book begins there.
StillPoint is an exploration of the creative interval between stillness and movement. It grows from the historical soil of osteopathy and cranial work, but its deepest question is larger than any single profession:
What becomes possible when force becomes quiet enough to listen?
That question leads us toward the central movement of this book:
Stillness → Inherent Motion → Reorganization → Return to Balance.
These four movements are not offered as a rigid physiological law. They are a philosophical and clinical framework for observing how living systems meet change. They describe a rhythm that may be recognized in the body, in therapeutic relationship, in learning, in grief, in adaptation, and in life itself.
Stillness interrupts automatic continuation.
Inherent motion reveals what is already moving.
Reorganization allows another arrangement to emerge.
Return to balance creates sufficient coherence for life to continue.
Then the cycle begins again.
To read this work is to be profoundly changed. Opening the physical, emotional, neuorolgical and spiritual vectors, we move without moving from our authentic center. Life unfolds as a thousand petal lotus before us.
We also offer a daily meditation within the book and read by the author as a separate sound track
